Coffee Morning May 5th 2007

A very well attended event at the Promenade Methodist Church resulted in the brilliant amount of £806.26p being raised, which will be used for supporting lupus sufferers and furthering the research into lupus.

Everyone’s hard work, the donations of goods for our stalls and gifts for raffle prizes were very much appreciated. Our friends, the ladies of the Methodist Church were there yet again to help and support us. Our grateful thanks to everyone in making this event so successful.

Your support was greatly appreciated.

On Saturday May 6th 2006 we held a very successful Coffee Morning at the Promenade Methodist Church. Our Patron Lady Haddacks opened the event with a short and interesting speech in which she included information regarding her training as a Nightingale Nurse. Our guest, Mrs Barbara Thorn, very kindly drew the raffle. The whole event was a great success and our thanks also go to members of MLSG and their families and the wonderful help given to us by the ladies of the Promenade Methodist Church, without which we could not hold such an event. A grand total of £846.91 was raised at the event and we would like to thank everyone who donated raffle prizes and goods for the stalls.

Our May 2005 Coffee Morning was a great success thanks to the hard work and help of our members, friends and supporters. The ladies of the Loch Promenade Methodist Church were wonderful once again. The ladies were looking after all the patrons and supplying everyone with tea, coffee and biscuits all morning, also donating their time, tea, coffee and biscuits to our cause. The stalls were laden with goodies (thanks to everyone who supplied them) and thanks to everyone for their hard work.

The raffle went extremely well with some really nice prizes and two lovely ladies manning it, Phyl & Muriel.

Joyce, Tom and Sylvia looked after the Awareness stand which had a lot of interest, items included wristbands, were very quickly sold out. But we have renewed stocks now so they will be on sale at our next event. Tracey and Marnia were very busy selling the beautiful hand made cards, (for which we have Elsa to thank). Jill was manning the cake stall with some of our friends from the church. And I could not resist buying some of Joan’s home baked fruit cake, scrumptious!!

Joan was looking after the beautiful doll which was very kindly donated by Mrs Una Johnson for our “Name the Doll” (the winning name being Freya). Elsa manned the admission desk and Dennis was at the entrance encouraging people to come and join us, which I am happy to say they did. Pam, Belinda and Terrie were kept very busy on the Bric a Brac stall with a great variety of goods. And a big thank you to Baillie, who not only manned the book stall, but also did the presentations to our guests. Our guests being, Mrs Sally Macfadyen and Mrs Barbara Thorn, who were absolutely delighted with their gifts, each being presented with a basket of flowers and a beautiful picture (the pictures made especially for each guest by Elsa).

Mary made a wonderful moving, speech which gave a great insight into lupus both from a personal aspect and to the importance of research into lupus. Mary then introduced both guests. Mrs Macfadyen then said a few words and Mrs Barbara Thorn kindly did the raffle afterwards. Everything went very well and to top it all we made over £700 (which included some very generous donations which were handed to Mary and myself). We have since received thank you letters from both Mrs S Macfadyen and Mrs Barbara Thorn.

World Lupus Day – Thanks to Albert Road School

A great big thank you goes to Albert Road School, who kindly donated £270 to the Manx Lupus Support Group as a result of their dressdown day in May. If your school or company would like to support the group in this way, please contact any of our committee members.

In May we had a brilliant surprise from teacher Mrs Janet Gilmour and the children of Kewaigue School. Janet organised a “dress down day” for the children of the school to commemorate World Lupus Day May 10th. This was held on May 6th. Terrie and I were invited to attend Assembly last Wednesday at the school when we were presented with a cheque for £114.

The children made quite an impression on us both with their knowledge of lupus, as well as the marvellous amount they had amassed for research into lupus. The wonderful friendly welcome we received will not be forgotten, what a happy school!  Oh to be five again and a pupil at Kewaigue! And it doesn’t end there! They are now helping us to support the St Thomas’ Louis Coote Lupus Unit by buying the wristbands - 220 wrist bands were sold for £1 each adding a further £220.

Thank you Janet and everyone at Kewaigue School!

Our grateful thanks to Trinity Church Committee the organisers and cast of “Raise the Roof” for all of their hard work in raising these funds. Raise the Roof was a fund-raising idea back in 1997 to finish paying for the new roof on Trinity Methodist Church. The show was a complete sell-out that September. Having raised the money the committee decided to carry on with the show, annually, to support the smaller local charities, two of which are chosen each year to benefit from the proceeds - between £2,000 and £3,000 for each chosen charity.
